Classic Mountain Bike Rides

This past weekend was good. I got out to ride both Saturday and Sunday; both awesome rides that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Jen at Walker Ranch

Saturday was Walker Ranch. Jen and I basically did two laps, but in the form of a big “C”. First we went counterclockwise from the parking lot all the way to the bike portage by South Boulder Creek; turned around here and backtracked to the parking lot. Back by the parking lot we continued around clockwise all the way down to the creek again, turned around and climbed back up to the car. The weather was perfect and it was good to be out riding with my honey again. She has been on the go for the last couple of weekends. Most notably she was kicking ass at the adventure race in Buena Vista last weekend.

Sunday, Buffalo Creek was up. Good friend Larkin and I headed up into the hills in the morning with a leisurely start around 11 am.

We parked on 550 and by the end of the day we had visited most of the usual suspects: Shinglemill, Morrison, Baldy, Gashouse, Miller Gulch and Charlie’s cutoff. While we spotted snow on north facing aspect of the mountains just a little higher than where we were riding, I was surprised to see how sandy and dried out the trails at Buffalo Creek already had gotten. Not quite as tacky as I thought and had hoped it would be this time of year, but it still was an awesome ride. I love the BC area and its undulating terrain.

What a weekend. I can’t wait for the next one!

Love the pictures as usual Jesper.

I was on those same trails + some yesterday, a beautiful day to be out there. It’s been fairly dry in Buff Creek for quite a while. The area used to be a little bit of a secret stash because the trails would always be much better than people expected – not anymore! Friday and Saturday the trails were tacky like you wanted, Sunday still pretty good but drying out fast.
