Fresh Snow
What a change. A welcomed changed. The temperature high dropped 40F or more from one day to the next. The sun gave away to rain on the plains and snow in the high country.
We had originally decided to ride mountain bikes yesterday, but because of the high chance of the trails still being too wet we instead decided to take a closer look at the fresh white stuff in the mountains.
Our destination was Pawnee Pass in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It is close, it is high, and you can bring dogs.
We touched snow before we got above the trees, but once above treeline there was plenty of it. We even ran into a guy who had been up early to get the first turns of the season in!
As we climbed the mountain, the clouds started building up. The once blue sky turned gray and our world “black and white”.
Good thing my favourite girls were there to add some colour
While the views were fantastic and we were only a short distance away from the actual pass, the ever growing and building clouds told us to that it might be a good idea to head down the mountain again.
On the way back we stopped at Lake Isabelle to snap the obligatory shot of the mountains mirrored in a lake.
As we descended, the clouds started to give away to blue skies again, and our multi-coloured world returned. It didn’t last long, though. Shortly hereafter rain and hail started coming down at the foot of the mountains.
We sure live in a purdy place…
