Sugarloaf Mountain

Sunday was a beautiful day. During breakfast we talked about possible destinations for the day and we finally decided that a visit to Sugarloaf Mountain was in order. Sugarloaf Mountain being relative close and a great vantage point for taking in the views of the Indian Peaks.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a relatively short hike up from the Switzerland trail head through what seems to be a recently burned wildfire area. The whole East, South-East side of the mountain is still very sparsely vegetated. That said, some trees appeared more than eager to get going. Some even tricked into budding here in January!

The cool thing about Sugarloaf Mountain is what your find on the “summit”: Reclined seats! I kid you not, reclined seat built out of rocks, facing the Indian Peaks. They are actually quite comfortable and makes great seating for watching the Indian Peaks. I can only imagine how cool it would be to sit here and watch the sun set behind the mountains, but the wind was howling, and Strelka was getting cold, so we didn’t quite stay that long. Maybe some day warmer…

Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can’t be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you’re thinking that
You’re leaving there too soon,
You’re leaving there too soon.
